The purpose of the article is to analyze the scientific heritage of E.O. Smirnova, in whose works an original theory for the development Adult-Child and Child-Peer communications in early and preschool age in a convergent environment was created. The unity of the genesis of will and managing self behavior as the basis for the formation of independence and self-determination of the individual is substantiated. The position on the role of joint activity between an adult and a child is substantiated as a condition for the child’s simultaneous appropriation of motives and cultural methods of action, ensuring the meaningfulness and awareness of the child’s activities. The content and structure of the parental relationship, including the objective and personal principles, is revealed, and an empirical typology of styles of parental behavior is proposed. The trend of transformation of the plot game is highlighted on the basis of a comparative analysis of the game of cohorts of modern preschoolers and cohorts of the 40-50s. The characteristics of the children's subculture, reflecting the crisis of childhood, are highlighted, special attention is paid to the trends in the transformation of toys and the role of cartoons and computer games in the convergent environment of development. Criteria for expert evaluation of toys and cartoons have been developed. Requirements for computer games are formulated, reflecting the social demand for the creation of content for a developing, safe information environment.

History of Special Education: new fundamental research and fascinating reading

The article analyzes the results of a fundamental research by N.N. Malofeev, described in the monograph “As it was in the Fatherland, or the Practice of teaching children with hearing impairment in the Russian Empire (1806–1917).” The author was the first to reconstruct a complete historical picture of the formation of the domestic practice of educating the deaf, covering all territories of the Russian Empire, all types of special educational institutions being created that appeared on the map of the country in the period 1806–1917. The relationship between the socio-cultural context of the country’s life and the likelihood of the emergence of educational institutions for the deaf, their viability, long-term prospects for existence, the pace and nature of development has been proven.

Psychological support for children with learning disabilities: retrospective and prospects

The article presents the results of a theoretical and experimental study, the purpose of which was to create a holistic system of psychological and pedagogical support, which would make it possible in practice to ensure the availability of quality education to every child with learning disabilities (LD). A retrospective analysis of interdisciplinary research and stages of development of the education system for children with LD was carried out; the role and tasks of psychological and pedagogical support for children with LD have been identified, specified and justified; prospects for using the results obtained in modern educational practice are outlined.

Evolution of terms as a reflection history of defectology and its modern stage

The article presents an overview of the results of the first theoretical study of the evolution of the professional language, carried out by N.N. Malofeev, O.I. Kukushkina and E.L. Goncharova, presented in the textbook for students “Special psychology and special pedagogy: the evolution of terms.” The regular changes of basic terms, the triggers and driving forces of the evolution of the professional language are shown. Presented method of professional training allows students to master the content of basic terms through active independent work.

This article provides important information about the problem of genetic hearing impairment, which is becoming more common today. When normal hearing parents have no relatives with hearing loss they are usually surprised if hearing loss are diagnosed at the birth of their child and they begin to look for the causes of deafness, which in fact turn out to be hereditary. The article talks about the book written by T.G. Markova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, an expert in the field of otogenetics, which was written for parents and describes the causes of hearing impairment in children. The cause is usually in the genes, the disruption of which leads to hearing loss. The book explains to parents what hearing loss is, why hair cells do not perceive sound, and why cochlear implantation helps. Particular attention in this book is occupied by modern methods that will avoid the birth of hearing impaired child, including a look at gene therapy.
