Almanac #21. Cochlear implantation: coordination of  medical specialists and teachers of the deaf
The presented Almanac issue 21 consists of works devoted to the medical, pedagogical and psychological aspects of cochlear implantation (CI). The aim of their join is to present the most actual theme in its completeness, to persuade the readership that at least in this case the new medicine opportunities change radically the purposes of special psychological and pedagogical work as well. There is shown that perspectives set in medicine can’t be realized without development of the new specialists approach, without statement of new targets in the family upbringing of an implanted child.

While cochlear implantation for children with hearing disorders is continuing to increase, it demands modernization of practice of teaching the deaf and special enlightening work with the parents. As the author believes, the effectiveness of cochlear implantation depends on the quality of the teachers of the deaf accompaniment of the implanted child and on the character of speech interaction with intimate adults.

Before the moment of the speech processor connection the teacher of the deaf deals with children with severe hearing disorders, whose status is determined and known. A child can be characterized as a deaf, hearing impaired with severe hearing loss, as a one, who became deaf (who has kept speech or who is being losing it), as a deaf child with complex disorders. Before the moment of the speech processor connection the existing customary classification is sufficient for successful work of the teacher of the deaf. They are used as the reference points for formation of the great necessity differentiated approach to teaching. At the current stage traditional professional competencies are sufficient for the specialist.
